About Library

SICSR Library started in 1985. The Library is divided into two areas, i.e., the stack area and the reading hall. The Library has a collection of books, national and international journals, magazines, and audio-visual material. The Library has a comprehensive collection of all types of resources for computer science and relevant subjects.

All the functions of the SICSR Library are being done through KOHA-integrated library management software, which manages all administrative functions of the Library. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) of books and other reading materials are accessible from any location. The link to access the following is

The member of the SICSR library has access to more than 45,000 E-Journals, more than 7 E-Databases, and more than 2,00,000 E-Books through the SIU Library portal. All the subscribed E-resources are remotely accessible through the SICSR library portal.

Library Rules & Regulations

  1. Identity Card is compulsory for library transactions
  2. Students who visit the library and the reading hall should make an entry into the auto in-out system.
  3. All library resources should be kept at the designated place.
  4. Kindly keep your mobile phones switched off or on silent mode when you are in the library
  5. No personal belongings are permitted in the library
  6. Eatables are strictly not allowed inside the library and the reading hall
  7. Do not litter.
  8. Students should return the allotted books in two weeks. On failure of returning books on the due date, Rs.5/- per day will be charged as fine.
  9. Periodicals and CDs will be issued for 2 days only and must be returned on the next working day. On failure of returning, a fine of Rs.5/- per day will be charged.
  10. Any reference material (reference books, latest periodicals) will be issued against the ID card only.
  11. The Reading hall will be open on Sundays between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm during examinations with prior notice.
  12. Strict action will be taken on misconduct and violation of rules
  13. Students loosing / damaging the library resources issued to him / her shall provided the replacement or has to pay the fine.
  14. Students shall not write upon or mark any signs / symbols / remarks on any book belonging to the library.
  15. Students may suggest recommended book (s) which are useful for their study through SIU OPAC. (http://symbiosis-koha.informindia.co.in)
  16. No photograph of the Library shall be taken without the prior permission of the Library In-Charge.
  17. Library In-Charge reserves the right to suspend the membership of any student found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving in an indecent manner.
  18. Students should maintain the silence in the library and reading room.

Membership is by default extended to
1. Faculty (full time and visiting) and staff of SICSR
2. UG Students
3. PG Students

Rules for the Membership
1. Students, Faculty, and Staff of SICSR avail the facility by producing the Identity card of the SICSR. Library Card is the only mandatory criteria to avail SICSR library membership.
2. Reading Hall Members should carry their own material for study.
3. Library will terminate the membership in case of misbehavior/violation of rules.

 

Services

  1. Circulation:Students and faculty member regularly issues the books, CD/DVD, Magazine and Journals
  2. Reference:There is a good collection of reference books.
  3. Inter Library Loan (ILL):Inter loan library is available.
  4. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC):We have an OPAC which facilitates members to view issue/return details of books in the library, new books due dates etc.
  5. New arrived Books:New arrived books are displayed for user for a period of one month
  6. Due book e-mail alert:An automated alert is sent to the borrower.
  7. Back volume of valued journalsAll journals are available from its subscription date.

Borrowing Rules:

  • Books which are labeled / stamped as reference books are not meant for borrowing.
  • The library is authorized to declare/hold certain books as reference material according to their demand. The book may not be labeled as reference material.
  • Old loose issues of periodicals can be borrowed. New/Latest issues and back volumes are meant for reference only.
  • The borrowing period for particular material can shrink according to the demand.

National Digital Library

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. NDL India is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for leading Indian languages. It is being arranged to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular form of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is being developed to help students to prepare for entrance and competitive examination, to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources.

Swayam

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.

Shodhganga

The Shodhganga@INFLIBNET is set-up using an open source digital repository software called DSpace developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in partnership between Hewlett- Packard (HP). The DSpace uses internationally recognized protocols and interoperability standards. Shodhganga provides a platform for research scholars to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access. The repository has the ability to capture, index, store, disseminate and preserve ETDs (Electronic Theses and Dissertations) submitted by the researchers.

How many books are issued to a student?
PG Students get 5 books and UG Students get 4 books against the ID cards issued to them.

How can I get information on books in the library?
The library information is available at OPAC [Open Public Access Catalogue]. The login details are sent to students upon their registration.

How do I access library and SIU subscribed online databases?
Every student get auto generated email of credentials to access this portal within 15 days of their joining. All databases links are hyperlinked on portal.

What is loan period of books?
Books are issued for 14 days.

Is there any fine for delayed books?
Yes, 5/-Rs fine is charged a day if you make delay.

Does library conduct orientation programme for students?
Yes, every year library takes ‘Library Orientation Programme’ for new students.

Is Journal/Magazine is issued at home?
Back issue of magazine/journal are issued to students against their ID card.

How many books are in library?
There are more than fifteen thousand books.

Are reference books issued to students?
Reference books are to be read only within library. They are not issuable.

Does library has question papers facility?
Yes, Library keeps question papers copy.

Are there CD/DVD available ?
Yes, Library keeps CD/DVD in library for student use.

How can I donate a book to library?
Yes, student can donate their book to library.

How can I request the book to library?
Yes, students can give their Purchase Recommendations through the SICSR Library Web OPAC, or they can suggest or recommend the books they want on
